Clients include Adidas, Puma, The Art Paper, Art News, Ensemble Magazine, The All Blacks, NZ FOOTBALL — capturing Aotearoa talent from rappers to rugby players, painters to lovers.
Sometimes, she directs films.
‘Kiss It Better’ Music Video
Crystal’s personal visual work is documentary-based. She is currently working on a photography book titled ‘竹根’ (zhú gēn) with her Mum, who was previously a photographer and has early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Together, they are documenting their travels back to the motherland, China.
They have already travelled to 13 cities and will be going back again in 2026 to finish it off.
This book will be a memoir on Cynthia Chen and her relationship with Crystal, as well as Crystal’s relationship to her roots.
They will have a book launch and exhibition in 2027 in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa.
